Educational Philosophy:
As a teacher I strive to instill the passions that I was fortunate enough to have experienced in my own learning journey. By creating an environment that encourages creativity, and classroom discussions, I hope to prompt students to feel welcomed with a sense of belonging in my classroom. I believe that students should see their learning mirrored within transferable skills, so by engaging them to participate in inquiry-based learning they can make the connections of content relevancy to their own lives.
Everyone has a unique set of experiences that stem from their own internal beliefs but also where their foundations lie. These shared experiences give everyone the ability to learn from one another. Just as varying educational and cultural backgrounds play a part in each student’s identity, the learning journey fostered in our school can help add to that identity with the connections our students make with others around them. These skills also help students develop an intellectual curiosity that leads to meaningful discussions and critical thinking about past and present issues. I see my role as not just providing the answers from which students have to show that they understand, but facilitating a genuine interest in understanding other perspectives.
