Land-Based Learning

Our vision of Land-Based learning is to provide students with the opportunity to connect with and learn from the Land.

At Seventh Fire Junior High and Seventh Fire Secondary, our programming integrates Land-based learning into the curriculum. A key aspect of this approach occurs in September and June, when all students participate in overnight hiking and canoe trips with their classes. These unique and challenging experiences allow students to disconnect from technology and reconnect with themselves, each other, and the Land. Highlights of these trips include fishing, storytelling, and late-night singing bowl sessions. Visit the Camping Trips page for more details.

Our approach to Land-based learning is to promote a greater connection to Self, Community, and Land; to cultivate healthy active living; to build inclusive leadership development and practical life skills; and to foster a deeper understanding of worldviews, perspectives, and practices.
